Year in Review

Here is a high level overview of what you can expect for a Dance Season with Jansen School of Dance.

It is important to recognize that by enrolling in dance, you are part of a team. The team needs commitment in order to be successful. Attendance is extremely important, no matter what age your dancer is, so your commitment to be at your dance class is necessary and appreciated!

  • Our season runs from September until May
  • The first few months dancers will focus on technique, learning new steps, and dance discipline
  • After Christmas break, dancers will begin to learn their performances in each class
  • Each dance class will have a “Class Parent” who is responsible for ensuring the group is kept up to date with all necessary information (cancelled classes/costume details/fee collection/etc)
  • All dances (with the exception of some ballet and technique for older groups) will perform in the Year-end recital that is typically the first Saturday in May
  • All dances will have a Picture Day in April where costumes/makeup/hair will be done and group pictures as well as individual pictures will be taken (it is optional to purchase pictures, but all dancers are asked to be present for group pictures)
  • Costume purchases and entry fees for competitions are in addition to class fees
  • Expect to participate in 1 or more competitions per year.  These may be:
    • Rockwood Festival of the Arts
    • North Eastern Manitoba Festival
    • CNDC
    • The View
    • Dance Canada
